There’s nothing better than a glass of wine at the end of a long day. And it’s so much more convenient when you have the wine right at hand when you want a glass. No shuffling off to the store to purchase a bottle. Especially during the times we are living in now.
You might have heard of bottling your own wine, called consumer made wine, but did not realize what a big difference there is between the wine made at home by “DIYers” working from grapes and what we do at Chateau Vezeau Wines.
Since there are many myths and facts about bottling your own wine, I wanted to lay a few of these to rest.
Myth: Consumer made wine isn’t as high quality as what you would find in the liquor store.
Fact: The quality of the wine is just as good as what you would find in store.
The same company that makes Jackson Triggs, Inniskillin, Sawmill Creek and other wines for the liquor store, also make wine kits, and those are the kits we use. Whether you’re producing 23 litres or 23,000 litres, the fermentation process is the same. And the results are the same as well.
Myth: It is more expensive than buying at the liquor store.
Fact: There are significant cost savings with consumer made wine.
It is quite a bit less expensive to make it than buy it, and here’s why. What you are purchasing from Chateau Vezeau Wines is grape juice. Grape juice is not subject to any taxes. What you are buying from the liquor store has alcohol, which is subject to significant taxation. 30 bottles of table wine from the liquor store will cost about $300. 30 bottles of consumer made wine will cost $132. For about an hour of your time you can save $168.
Myth: It’s not as healthy as wine in the store.
Fact: It has lower levels of sulfites.
Our wine has lower levels of sulfite because it is generally consumed within a few years. When wine is sent to the liquor store, it needs more sulfites because there is no way of knowing when the wine will be consumed. Want to learn more about sulfites? You can go to our other blog post here.
I hope that this post has given you more information on why bottling your own wine is an excellent choice for wine lovers. Plus, bottling is fun, gets you out of the house, and is a great way to fill the wine cellar. Ready to get started? Book your appointment now.
